In short, you should use Avlat to save time, costs and hassles.
Trip service elements for flights operated by B&GA, Military and even Commercial Airlines (for diversion, delivery and redelivery trips) are procured and fulfilled using the Email and Telephone using multiple layers of intermediaries. This adds to the complexity and cost.
You would first source a Trip Cost Estimate (TCE) or an Estimate through your Trip Support Provider who in turn collates estimates from his end stakeholders, such as Fueller, Ground Handler, Airport, etc. This process alone has a lead time of about 12 - 48 hours!
Of course, your Trip never gets fulfilled as per the original schedule. Dates, Times, Pax, Destination, Route, Flight Level, Speed, etc., all get revised multiple times. 20 emails and 20 calls later, the trip gets fulfilled. This is just for one sector of the trip! Add 5 sectors to the Trip and the complexity becomes apparent leading to service lapses. A messed-up Overflight Permit, a missed Visa for a passenger added at the last minute, a forgotten Catering Order, a delayed Fuel Truck, delayed CIQ, etc. All real life examples! Post the trip, invoices get generated, get disputed, and after innumerable follow up finally get paid.
Operators frequently experience serious operational and customer service issues leading to a poor aircraft ownership experience.
